Wisconsin Society History
The beginning of the Wisconsin Society began in August 1979 when Gretchen Warda was invited to join the Society and organize the first Wisconsin Chapter, Edward Jackson. This chapter, located in Milwaukee, was organized December 14, 1979 with sixteen members, and chartered June 27, 1980 with thirty-three members.
In June 1982, Edward Jackson Chapter split into four chapters. During this time, Gretchen Warda was elected the State President. Due to several variables (i.e., traveling problems with weather and distance, deaths, and relocation of members) the three new chapters disbanded. The remaining members transferred into Edward Jackson, leaving just one Wisconsin chapter.
Then in 1988, a south-central chapter was developed. The Reginald Foster Chapter, located in Janesville, was organized by Mrs. Grace Knipp March 5, 1988 and chartered May 7, 1988 with twenty-four members. Presently we have two chapters in the state and seventy-one members.
Highlights of our thirty-seven years include the luncheons and banquet we sponsored for the National Society, and the formation of a successful state scholarship. Wisconsin is proud of its accomplishments and awards during its existence.
